Access issues are such things as: the media’s right to be in a courtroom during proceedings and the availability and right to access records under such statutes as the Freedom of Information Act. Libel/defamation covers the defense of media outlets who print questionable items about individuals or organizations. Libel is a difficult claim to prove. However, it is an often-practiced area of litigation in media law. Examples of recent First Amendment issues include cases surrounding the right of reporters to maintain confidential sources and confidential notes of interviews.
