IBLT Attorney Comments on Rules Changes to Allow Video Cameras in Civil CourtIn a July 20th article, the Columbus Dispatch quoted attorney Mark
Landes regarding the decision to allow video cameras in civil cases.
Local lawyer Mark Landes said yesterday that he is looking forward to
having cameras in federal courtrooms. He has tried more than 300 cases in the
Southern District of Ohio and twice been president of the Columbus chapter of
the Federal Bar Association.
"I think more information is better, and I think people expect it," he
said.
But he worries that most lawyers won't agree.
"Lawyers are very conservative and afraid and like to control what's going
to happen at trials," he said. "I think lawyers will object. But they're also
showoffs and maybe that will counterbalance the 'fraidy-cat' part."
-- 3 Local U.S. Judges to Allow Video of Civil Cases, Kathy Lynn Gray,
The Columbus Dispatch, July 20, 2011
Litigation UpdatesMark Landes and Greg Travalio won a hearing in a major Multi-District
Litigation consumer class action. After arguing in Louisville, Kentucky before
the national panel of judges to consider Multi-District Litigation, the panel on
May 23 agreed with Landes and Travalio that all cases in the nation should be
sent to Columbus, Ohio. The case involves defective coolant pipes in Porsche
Cayenne SUV's manufactured through 2006. Porsche had made them of plastic,
causing failure and expensive repair. They are now made of metal.
