Mr. Weaver is Of Counsel to the firm. He is an experienced attorney who has handled thousands of legal matters for individual clients, government agencies, and businesses.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Weaver was the Deputy Attorney General of Ohio, where he helped manage an agency with 1,400 employees and 50,000 cases. He also supervised all state litigation concerning public records and open meetings law. He authored or co-authored eight editions of the State of Ohio "Guide to Sunshine Laws." The Cleveland Plain Dealer called Mr. Weaver "the guru of Ohio public records law."
Mr. Weaver holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Public Administration and earned a Juris Doctorate from the Delaware Law School at Widener University, where he graduated in the top 15 percent of his class. He is admitted to practice in Ohio, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia,
federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. The nationally-respected attorney rating service, Martindale-Hubbell, awarded Mr. Weaver its highest rating of legal excellence -- AV.
His past professional assignments include serving as the Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Justice and Vice
President and General Counsel of a national communications firm in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Weaver teaches at the University of Akron and The Ohio State University College of Law. Each year, he coauthors a chapter in "Baldwin's Ohio Administrative Law Handbook." He has also been named in "Who's Who in American Law."
Mr. Weaver has developed a statewide reputation in public records and open meetings law. He often defends government agencies against lawsuits brought in the Ohio Supreme Court. He also regularly handles high-profile cases involving campaign finance and election law issues.
A frequent commentator on U.S. Supreme Court nominations and other policy matters, Mr. Weaver has been interviewed by every major national media outlet including 60 Minutes, Nightline, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, MSNBC, CNN, FOX News, NPR, BBC, USA Today, Newsweek, Time, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Associated Press, and Reuters. Several of Mr. Weaver's op-ed columns on legal issues have been published in major national newspapers.
Mr. Weaver serves as a part-time Magistrate in the Hilliard Mayor's Court, presiding over all criminal misdemeanor hearings and trials. He is also a part-time felony-level prosecutor in Southern Ohio, where he often prosecutes child sex abuse cases.
Mr. Weaver and his wife Lori reside in Central Ohio, where they are raising their two children.
